Reference: License Management
This document provides technical reference material related to USoft's license management system.
Terminology
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| Thales | Distributor of the license system used by USoft. Thales provides the Runtime service and the ACC interface. |
| Runtime | Background service provided by Thales that validates licenses. It is installed automatically during USoft setup. |
| ACC | The Admin Control Center. A web interface exposed by Runtime at http://localhost:1947. It displays available licenses, their status, and associated Sentinel Keys. |
| Portal | The Thales customer portal, used to manage cloud license sessions |
| Entitlement | Thales term for a license. A single Sentinel Key can contain one or more entitlements. |
| Sentinel Key | An identifier for a container that holds one or more entitlements. Represented as a numeric string. |
| Development Tools | USoft tools used to develop an application (e.g., Definer, Web Designer). These tools do not require Engine licenses — they're covered by Developer Licenses instead. |
| Client Server Engines | Licenses consumed by Windows applications and RunBatch.exe. Each machine takes one license, which can be shared by multiple applications on that machine. |
| Engines | Licenses consumed by a Rules Service. Each Rules Engine instance requires one Engine license. |
| Peak Engines | An optional add-on to the base license that permits temporarily exceeding the standard Engine limits. This requires a separate cloud license. Contact your account manager for details. |
Network License Server Requirements
A machine designated as a network license server must meet the following requirements:
- Operating System: Windows 11 (x64), Windows Server 2022, or Windows Server 2025.
- Software: An installed version of USoft 11.2.
- Firewall: Port
1947must be open for incoming and outgoing TCP traffic to allow communication between clients and the license server.
No formal CPU, RAM, or disk requirements apply. Recommended minimum:
- 2 CPU cores
- 2-4 GB RAM
- 1-2 GB free disk space
- A static IP address (recommended)
License Version Compatibility
The USoft version on the License Server does not need to match the version on client machines.
- A License Server is forward-compatible with newer versions of USoft client software.
- Newer versions of the License Server are backward-compatible with older versions of USoft client software.
